Please speak with school, explain your worries, most have put in place great measures to keep everyone safe and many are allowing the vulnerable to stay home. But for some of you we know you just can’t do it, you’re not happy with the school system pre covid, and now it’s worse. Did you know about home education? For many of you, you see home education in a bad light, you think the child is forced to the dining table all day with a timetable of work that the parent just can’t teach, STOP! It’s nothing like that. Home educators (when covid isn’t an issue) are out in the world as often as they want, they’re at groups, with friends, at museums, at the park, music groups, language lessons etc. There’s tens of thousands of home educated children and every single one of them follows a different style. You, the parent, do not teach, you facilitate, you provide everything the child could need. And you’re there when they ask questions. And if you don’t know the answer then Google is there, as are lots of willing and helpful home educators. Consider your options carefully though. Whilst home education doesn’t have to be forever, there’s no guarantee what school your child would be given a place at if things don’t work out. Home education should really be a long term plan.
