Alcohol and tobacco are both drugs, which means that they contain chemicals that make changes to the body. These particular drugs are legal for adults; however, they are illegal for under 18s in the UK.
There are many types of illegal drugs too. Drugs are highly addictive and can impair a person’s judgement or vision. When a person is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, they are more likely to make poor decisions.
Many types of drugs are known depressants, which means they can make a person feel down or low. Drugs known as stimulants, which increase a person’s activity and movement, have the opposite effect on the body to depressants. Other drugs can be hallucinogens: the chemicals in these make a person have vivid imaginary experiences called hallucinations.
If drugs, including alcohol, are taken in excessive amounts then a person can suffer an overdose that potentially could be fatal.visit
