Finding field trips in your county isn’t as hard as you might think!

One of the best things about homeschooling is the day trips.

I remember going on field trips in school with great fondness. We had a trip to a local museum every year that was a highlight for me.

Now they only allow one field trip a year in most places, which in my opinion, just isn’t enough! Kids need to explore and learn about history, music, art, and life first hand. Not just from a book.

But how can you find homeschool field trips in your state? There isn’t always a handy list to download or print, so where do you start?

Go to Historical Sites

Assign your home school students a research project. They will find local historical sites to visit that pertain to the current curriculum you’re studying at home.

Visit a Historical Museum

There is a rich history in every area of the world. No matter where you’re homeschooling in the country or outside of the country, there will be historical museums ready to teach your kids about our history.

Walk Through a city ie LONDON

This is a very education field trip for homeschooling as it will help them comprehend how our government works at the state level. you can also do guided tours free via the UK parliament website

Walking Through Cemetery

Find a local cemetery that has been around for many years. Take a walk around the cemetery and view each of the tombstones. Have some fun by seeing who can find the oldest tombstone in the cemetery.

Visit a Science Museum

Many science museums will have reasonably priced tickets for homeschooling looking to go on a field trip. When you visit a local science museum, you’re able to have a hands-on science day with your kids.

A planetarium is a beautiful field trip experience for homeschoolers. This helps your kids learn about the sky and past astronauts who’ve made special missions to the moon and other areas in space.

Learn the animals in the Zoo

If you’re lucky to have a zoo that’s a reasonable driving distance away from you, then you must consider this as a field trip for homeschooling. This is a great way to learn more about the animals in our world.

Visit an Aquarium or SeaWorld

Learning about our ocean life is better when your homeschoolers are able to experience sea life first hand. A local aquarium or SeaWorld will inspire your kids to have a love of ocean life for a long time.

Have some Picnic in a Botanical Garden

Having a picnic with your homeschool students is always a relaxing and fun adventure but when you combine this with a botanical garden, the learning begins.

Observing the Birds

Take a trip outside to a nature trail. Assign the kids a worksheet that helps them spot specific birds in their habitat on this nature trail. See how many species your kids can find during this nature walk.

Hiking in a Forest

There are many National Forests that have hiking trails open the public. The great thing about these is that they are usually free or low cost.

Watching a Performance in a Theater

Plan an entertaining field trip for your home schoolers by purchasing tickets to a local theater. This can be a Broadway show or a show put on by amateur theater performers.

Learn How to Plant in the Garden or in the Green House

Using your field trip for home schoolers this school season to educate kids about gardening is the perfect way to help them be more self-sufficient when they’re adults.

Visit a Farm

There are many farmers ready to open their doors and education homeschool students about the ways of farming. This is a wonderful way to teach kids where their food comes from.

Visit a Hospital or elderly home

It is not going to be an easy visit for children because there are sick people and you might be worried that kids will be infected in some ways. However, it is fascinating if they can visit the laboratories, various examination rooms, ICU, etc to introduce activities in hospitals. You should pre-arrange the visit so kids can get the most out of the visit safely.

There are many other field trip ideas for homeschoolers that could be included within this list shared today. I tried to include a few fun trips as well as educational ones. It’s important to take your homeschool kids out into society every so often to ensure they’re learning how our world works with a hands-on experience.
